Accessibility Statement

Debt Freedom Service should work for everyone, however you see, hear, move or think, and whichever technology you use. This page explains what we do, the standard we are working toward, and who to contact when something gets in your way.

Section 1: Designed for everyone

No one should be shut out of exploring their loan options by a barrier of any kind, digital ones included. We want every visitor to be able to use Debt Freedom Service fully, whatever their abilities, whichever assistive technology they rely on and however they choose to browse.

Where we fall short, we want to hear about it. Section 6 explains how to reach us.

Section 2: The standards we follow

Our target is Level AA of WCAG 2.1, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium). The guidelines rest on four principles, often remembered as POUR:

  1. Perceivable

Information is presented in ways every visitor can take in, such as text alternatives for images and enough contrast between text and its background.

  2. Operable

Every control and every route through the site can be used with a keyboard, with voice commands or with another input device.

  3. Understandable

Text reads clearly, and the interface behaves in consistent, predictable ways.

  4. Robust

Standard markup keeps content working with today's assistive technologies and gives it the best chance of working with tomorrow's.

We check the site against these guidelines using automated testing tools and hands-on review, including keyboard use, zoom and color contrast, and we act on what we find. We aim to repeat those checks whenever the site changes.

Section 3: What's built into this site

These features are here to support a range of needs and preferences:

Meaningful structureHeadings follow a logical order, pages have clear landmark regions, and link text describes where it leads.
Keyboard accessEverything works without a mouse, focus is always visible, and the form window keeps focus inside it and closes with the Escape key.
Text alternativesImages that carry information have descriptive alternative text, and purely decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers.
Readable contrastText and controls are designed to meet the WCAG AA contrast ratios, and we measure them as part of our checks.
Zoom and reflowPages can be zoomed to 400%, the equivalent of a 320-pixel-wide window, and reflow into a single column without sideways scrolling.
Skip links and calmer motionKeyboard users can jump past the header with a skip link, moving content can be paused, and animation is switched off for visitors whose device asks for reduced motion.

Section 4: Known gaps and ongoing work

Our goal is Level AA across the whole site, but some areas may fall short today. These are the gaps we know about:

  • The request form is an embedded component from a third-party platform, so parts of its accessibility are outside our direct control. If you can't complete it, call (866) 779-3698 or email [email protected] and we'll work with you to find another way to connect with a lender
  • Links may lead to lenders and other outside websites that we don't operate, and the accessibility of those pages is the responsibility of their owners
  • We review changes carefully, but a barrier can slip through when pages are added or updated

Spotted something we haven't listed? Tell us. Every report is added to our list of improvements.

Section 5: Assistive technology and browsers

We build with the following in mind. We haven't tested every combination of browser and assistive technology, so please tell us if something doesn't work for you.

  • Screen readersStandard markup, labeled controls and a logical reading order, designed with NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, and TalkBack on Android in mind
  • Keyboard onlyEvery feature can be reached from the keyboard alone
  • Voice controlButtons and links show text labels that match their accessible names, which suits Apple Voice Control and Dragon NaturallySpeaking
  • Zoom and reflowZooming the page as far as 400% keeps content in a single, readable column on phones, tablets and computers
  • High contrastButtons and cards keep visible outlines in Windows high-contrast themes

You'll get the best results from an up-to-date version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge.

Section 6: Tell us what isn't working

If a page, a control or a piece of content is hard to reach or use, call (866) 779-3698 or email [email protected]. We'll look into it as promptly as we reasonably can and, where possible, arrange a reasonable accommodation or an accessible alternative.

It helps if you can tell us which page it was, what you were trying to do, and which browser or assistive technology you use. Our full contact details are just below.
